To make it through the day

Do you ever find yourself daydreaming while you pass the time at work? Or maybe you come home and think, "Man, my job would be so much more exciting if only..."
It could be that I'm the only one who thinks that - but I really don't think so.
Sometimes (please tell me you do this, too) when we find ourselves in the type of situation that is less than exciting, I think a common reaction is to let our minds wander until we strike upon a subject that sparks a bit of interest.
Are there not days when we have to pull from our imaginations during the down time at work, or any situation for that matter?

Well as my exploratory little mind has been contemplating the different aspects of my job - a substitute lunch lady - I decided that lunch ladies might not have such a bad reputation if they were portrayed a little something like this:

(P.S. this will be a lot more effective if you imagine some kind of awesome superhero theme music playing in the background, as well as the narration done in an epic-ly deep voice - you know the type. Enjoy!)

Lunch ladies:
Scary old lady carrying a big spoon, or lunchroom hero? You decide.

Rain or shine there's one person you can always be sure will be at their post first thing in the morning.
Dressed for the job in her stylish yet functional oil-resistant, skid-free, black shoes there isn't a wet surface that she can't cross.

Armed in her apron and impenetrable hairnet, you can be sure that your food will be free of those lethal stray hairs and un-wanted particles that cling to clothing. Nothing gets past this protective ensemble.

Your children can always count on being served a gastronomical delight if they decide to go through the line at the cafeteria. Sometimes they may even recognize the food they're being served. But have no fear, prior to serving the children who are entrusted to their mealtime care, each devoted lunch lady fearlessly sits down for lunch and samples a portion of the food they will soon be serving.
Not only are lunch ladies working day in and day out in the trenches of the kitchen, preparing food long before their hungry customers arrive to eat, but they are also able to serve their food with a smile. Not just anyone can convince a picky 1st grade eater that, "I know it looks like it could eat you, but it really is delicious - honestly!"

Lose a fork in the over-loaded garbage can? Lunch ladies have got your back!
Spilled your whole pint of milk all over your plate? They'll serve you another portion before you know what hit you (or your stomach).
There isn't a thing that a trusty lunch lady wouldn't do to make sure that your children (whether they're new kindergartners, or just about to graduate high school) leave the lunchroom with a full stomach and a minimal grimace on their face.
Lunch ladies: the un-sung heroes in the battle against hunger.
