A Prom-y post

In case you're wondering, then yes, last weekend was prom weekend around here.
Kelani got asked to go by one of her good friends Preston (who you've seen before when they came and dined in our basement a couple months ago).
The was the first prom for the girls in our family so we had a little more to do than when David went.
Lucky for Kelani, we have some sweet connections thanks to friends in the ward, and they pitched in to help her get all glammed up!
She borrowed a super great dress from one of our fashionista friends who had quite a selection to choose from. It was pretty much the dress of Nani's dreams and she's literally been in love with this particular style of dress ever since she was a little girl. Score!
We also happen to have an amazing hair stylist friend who basically volunteered to do Nani's hair once she found out about prom coming up. So I got to take Nani over to our friend's house and watch the magic happen! On top of that, this lady is also a nail artist and gave Nani some fun and fancy nails to match her dress.

So on Saturday evening Preston came over to the house to pick up the dazzling Kelani and pose for those wonderful, embarrassing, living room pre-prom pictures.
Kelani was having zero luck getting Preston's bout. pinned on, so Mom stepped in to get things done. Well, she ended up jabbing her finger with the pin and they had to call me in as back-up in order for Mom to spare Preston's white jacket.
So yes, yours truly got to try her hand at pinning on the boutonniere (first time for everything, right?) and by the time I finished, that baby wasn't going anywhere.
So after all that I met up with Nani and Preston, plus the other couples in their prom group so we could get some pictures at Kathryn Albertson before they all went to dinner. On my way over it started to rain and I was hoping there was a good "plan b" in case things got too wet.

Lucky someone had the foresight to bring some umbrellas!

 Check out those lovely locks!
After almost having to re-locate to an indoor photo shoot, the rain let up just as some of the other couples' parents were deciding where to try instead. So we all made our way into the park and got to take some fun pictures.
There they are! Preston and Nani, the dream team. :)
Preston loves having his picture taken almost as much as David did. For Preston it's probably more awkward since I'm not his sister and he doesn't want to look like a goof in front of us, where as David on the other hand, took it on as a personal quest to be as ridiculous as possible.
But we did get a few wacky ones out of Preston, and Kelani told me that this next picture is basically the sum of how they always are when they're hanging out. Classic!
Gretchen and Nani have been friends for several years so it was awesome that they got to go to prom and be in the same group all night. They're so funny together!

 ~The ladies~

The boys were so funny! They all just ended up in their own little group while everyone took tons of pictures of the girls. But eventually the boys got worked back into the pictures and all was well. :)
As Grandma Farns likes to tell her granddaughters all the time, "Hubba hubba zing zing, Baby you got everything!" Haha, awkward!
Right before this picture was taken, Nani had a bug fly into her face and she then proceeded to have a mini-fly swatting attack (have I ever mentioned how much she hates bugs?). It was entertaining for Preston and I, though, so we just let her at it.
Anyway, they were all good sports and let us take probably way more pictures than any of them wanted to pose for. As soon as we were done they all headed off to dinner and the prom. Preston's a good guy and had the little Cinderella home by midnight and even though I'd gone to bed before she got home, I was semi-conscious of her filling Mom in with all the stories of their night.
They had a good time and it was fun to see prom from the girl's side of it this time. We're nice and well rounded now thanks to Nani and David and all the school dances they went to! Good times!
