How was your Thanksgiving? Did you eat enough?
Ours was good and we got lots of time just to hang out as a family. Normally we go to the Farm for Thanksgiving, but we did our big dinner there while we were there for Halloween, so this year we had Thanksgiving at our house.
The festivities started on Wednesday afternoon with Mom and I going to Festival of Trees for the traditional clogging performance. We usually dance there every year, and this one was no exception. I had a couple of the classes I teach that got to perform their new dances for the first time at this show.
My tiniest dancers looked sooo cute in their new dresses, so I couldn't resist getting a picture of them before the show started. The show went good, despite that being one of the slipperiest (is that a word?) stages we ever dance on!
Then of course, Thursday was the big day! Aunt Lisa raised turkeys last year and gave one to each of her siblings, so we cooked ours this year. It was right around 40 lbs and it was a BEAST!Before ~
Before I left work at the flower shop on Wednesday, one of the girls that works there asked me if I'd like a bouquet to take home for Thanksgiving. So she whipped this one up real quick before I came home. It was such a fun surprise! And yes, those are real pomegranates! Who knew?
We barely even made a dent in this big bird by the end of the meal! But it was tasty! :)
It took us a minute, but I finally convinced Malia to let me take a picture of her - rather than the back of her head.
We had Grandma Jack and Uncle Bob, Aunt Judy, and Journi and Ronnie over for lunch. It was a fun afternoon!
David HATES me taking so many pictures, especially if he's in them - which may or may not be all the more reason to do it.....
And of course, almost a pie per person. Just kidding, not that many!
And then there's Dad. I guess he earned this evening nap. What? Cooking and eating is more exhausting than we give it credit for! We watched "The Grinch", one of those things we made sure to do with David, "Since it's your last time for two years!" He's been hearing that a lot lately.
Another one of those "last things" we did was have an epic round of "Just Dance" on the Wii. I don't know how he manages it, but David beats us almost every time!! Oh well, now we just get two years of practice and I've told him to be prepared to lose when he gets back (wishful thinking, but still).
He put his whole heart (and neck) into our dance party, and we were almost laughing too hard to keep up with the game at some points!! :D
Can you see Nani cracking up at him in this one? Watch out Beyonce, you have some sick competition out there! :)
On Friday David got set apart as a missionary, and later that day I performed at the Festival of Trees, but with Irish Dance Idaho this time. It went good, too, and luckily a little bit of duct tape on the bottom of our hard shoes adds a bit more resistance on that slippery floor!Today our little "adopted" brother, Jordan, stopped by in the evening to bring David a pan of brownies that Jordan made specially for him. Jordan is Nani's age and they were inseparable ever since they were tiny kids; and especially since we are neighbors, we've had Jordan around a lot. But once he got older, he started coming over just to hang out with any of us that were home, and him and David got to be pretty good buds.
From campouts on the tramp in the summer, to turning the house into the "clubhouse" while the rest of the family were away at girls camp, these guys are pretty funny together.
Now here we go on the last few days of having David here, then it's 'adios' for a couple years. We'll miss him, for sure, but it's also going to be so awesome to have a missionary in the family!
