So those of you who know us, won't be suprised to hear that we've gotten a new addition to our list of pets. Added to the four hamsters, several fish, five rabbits, several dogs, a horse, three birds, three ducks, and two cats we've owned throughout the years, we now have seven chickens. We bought them a week or so before Easter. They were so cute at first...now they're going through that ugly "between" phase.
All seven of them lived in a box in a corner of Malia's room for the first few weeks, A) because they were still too little to live outside, and B) we didn't have their chicken coop finished. Grandma is letting us turn her old dog run into a coop for these guys.
That turned into a way bigger project than we planned on, and we've been out almost every weekend, and some week nights to fix it up. Dad and Malia ended up doing alot of the heavy duty repairs, and the rest of us helped when they needed us there. One night we were out trying to get some netting over the top of the coop and had great fun trying to un-catch it from every little thing it hooked onto. Malia and I were on the roof of the coop and shed next to it, to hold up the net while Mom, and Grandma were underneath trying to keep it in place while Dad got it where he wanted it. As we were covering it, a couple HUGE hawks flew in circles over us, almost like they knew why we were out there. But everything is pretty much finished up now and the chickens moved into their new home last night. Finally!
