We must never forget

“In the gospel of Jesus Christ you have help from both sides of the veil and you must never forget that. When disappointment and discouragement strike, and they will, you remember and never forget that if our eyes could be opened we would see horses and chariots of fire as far as the eye can see riding at reckless speed to come to our protection. They will always be there, these armies of heaven, in defense of Abraham’s seed.”

–Jeffrey R. Holland, “For Times of Trouble,” New Era, Oct. 1980

This morning I opened my email and had this spiritual thought in my inbox. (You can get them too, if you click on this http://ldsspiritualthoughts.com/) I've read it before, but we'd just recently been talking to a friend about things along this line and so it made me more aware of how true it really is.
Of course, Elder Holland has such a powerful way of putting things anyway, but then if you stop and take a minute to really let the meaning of what he's saying soak in - wow!
All of us have been through the part of life when people we love have gone back to heaven and aren't here physically with us any more. But I believe that they are included, and probably at the front line of those who are rushing to our aid when we are in need of that extra help.
This is all a little close to the surface right now, so the message I got in my email wasn't just a coincidence I think. We are so loved and so blessed to have the knowledge that we are never left helpless. I know there are times when we feel alone and like we're the only ones aware of the struggles we face. But like Elder Holland says, we "must never forget" that we have help from both sides of the veil and we will never really be alone. True, sometimes we might not accept or acknowledge help that is trying to be given, but I don't think that means that we've been given up on. There will always be those loved ones, not only on earth but also in heaven, who are there to help us and who love us.....and that is a comforting thought.
